Barbara Rett
Barbara Rett (born July 30, 1953 in Vienna ) is an Austrian cultural journalist and television presenter .
Professional background
Barbara Rett holds a doctorate in German (dissertation in 1978 at the University of Innsbruck under the title “Johann Nestroy and the Civil Revolution”) and a Romance studies . While still at school, she took her first steps in journalism on the ORF radio show “ Die Musicbox ”.
From 1979 to 1986 she worked in adult education as the director of the Hietzing Adult Education Center . In 1988 she returned to ORF and was also the host of the legendary program “ Club 2 ” as a specialist in sensitive issues such as gay marriage, anorexia, children, church, art. From 1992 on radio in the series “Von Tag zu Tag”. Here she was also employed as an opera specialist (Das Invisible Opera House) on Ö1 .
For the Franco-German cultural channel ARTE , she moderated themed evenings on Austrian culture and history and, as an independent curator, led exhibition and cultural projects such as the “Wittgenstein Encounters” ( Secession 1989, Museum for Applied Art 1994) and in 1996 “The Strudlhofstiege and Doderers Vienna".
“ ZIB Kultur” was introduced in March 1995 , from then on the cultural news broadcast on “ZIB 1” was moderated by her, alternately with Clarissa Stadler , Erna Cuesta and Paul Kraker , and from March 1999 to December 2004 the weekly cultural television program “Treffpunkt Culture". On Sundays and public holidays from January 2006 to March 2007, ORF 2 presented “Streifzug Kultur”.
She moderated major ORF live opera broadcasts, including from the Salzburg Festival ( Rosenkavalier 2004, La Traviata 2005, Marriage of Figaro 2006, Eugen Onegin 2007) and from the Vienna State Opera ( Manon and The Regiment Daughter 2007), from the Bregenz community Festival and from the Mörbisch lake stage ( Viennese blood ) . At the same time, in the summer of 2007, she conducted “festival talks” with various artists. Since 2008, the Vienna Philharmonic's New Year's Concert for Austrian television viewers has been commentated on by Barbara Rett, who thus succeeded Ernst Grissemann .
She took part in the first season of the Austrian Dancing Stars and took third place with professional dance partner Manfred Zehender . The 2007 Vienna Opera Ball was hosted by her together with Arabella Kiesbauer and Alfons Haider . Since October 11, 2007 she can be seen in "Herbstzeit", a magazine on ORF2, with the new culture section "Barbara Rett meets ...". Since October 26, 2011, Barbara Rett has been the central figure of the Austrian special interest broadcaster ORF III . In this role she also arranges the interim moderation for the annual film music gala Hollywood in Vienna .
In 2012 she received the Axel Corti Prize . She ran a blog between July 2012 and 2016 , which is no longer available.
Barbara Rett is a member of the jury for the “Ohrenschmaus” literary prize for people with learning difficulties.
Private
Her father was the pediatrician Andreas Rett . Barbara Rett is married to the son of the chamber singer Eberhard Waechter , the lawyer and kindergarten teacher Albert Waechter. When her time allows, the part-time farmer and enthusiastic gardener lives with her family in a renovated, listed farmhouse made of granite stone ( Hoisn-Hof ) in the Mühlviertel .
