Ohrenschmaus (Literature Prize)

Ohrenschmaus is the name of an Austrian literature prize founded in 2007 on the initiative of Franz-Joseph Huainigg for people with intellectual disabilities ( literature by people with learning difficulties ). Since then, the prize has been awarded annually under the patronage of Felix Mitterer . The award ceremony has been taking place in the MuseumsQuartier in Vienna since 2008 .

Details

The prize is advertised every spring by the participating organizations and through Austrian media. The participants include authors from all over Austria as well as from the neighboring German-speaking area. In autumn, the jury will discuss the award of the prize. This takes place at the end of November / beginning of December. In recent years, Minister of Education Claudia Schmied and Minister of Science Karlheinz Töchterle have presented prizes.

Initiator Franz-Joseph Huainigg, born in 1966, is an author, graduate of the University of Klagenfurt (German studies), wheelchair user, user of a ventilator and was an ÖVP member of the Austrian National Council until 2017 .
