In the conclave of 1830–1831 , which met from December 14, 1830 to February 2, 1831 , the previous prefect of the Congregation De Propaganda Fide , Bartolomeo Alberto Cappellari O.SB Cam , became Pope Gregory XVI. elected. It was the last conclave so far that lasted more than a month.

After the death of Pope Pius VIII on November 30, 1830, Cardinal Dean Bartolomeo Pacca called the cardinals together for a conclave.
