Carlo Maria Pedicini
Carlo Maria Pedicini (born November 2, 1769 in Benevento , † November 19, 1843 in Rome ) was an Italian cardinal of the Roman Church .
Life
Pedicini studied at the Collegio Nazareno from 1783 to 1789 . After completing his legal training with Alessandro Macedonio , he completed training at the Pontifical Diplomatic Academy from 1790 to 1792 . At first he was private treasurer and court master of Pius VI. In 1792 he became an assistant at the Supreme Court of the Apostolic Signature . In 1794 he became consultor of the Congregation for Rites . In 1795 he became prelate of the Tridentine Council. After Pope Pius VII took office , he became a judge ("Realtor") at the Roman Curia , and from 1801 he was prelate of the Congregation for Ecclesiastical Immunity . After the Italian campaign and the capture of Rome by Napoléon Bonaparte , he was appointed Pro-Secretary of the Curia in 1808. Cardinal deacon Agostino Rivarola ordered him in 1814 in the Vatican Secretariat of State with the aim of restructuring the Papal States . Together with Giovanni Barberi, he was responsible for the health system of the Vatican. Shortly afterwards he became secretary to Giovanni Battista Quarantotti , prefect of the Propaganda Fide . He was ordained a priest on March 26, 1815 . In 1816 he became secretary of the College of Cardinals .
Pope Pius VII appointed him cardinal on March 10, 1823 with the rank of cardinal priest with the titular church Santa Maria in Via . Leo XII. appointed him cardinal priest in 1828 with the titular church Santa Maria della Pace . In 1830 he was appointed cardinal bishop and bishop of the suburbicarian diocese of Palestrina by Pope Pius VIII . He received his episcopal ordination on August 15, 1830 in the Roman church of S. Maria in Campitelli, Cardinal Dean Bartolomeo Pacca , Bishop of Ostia e Velletri ; Co-consecrators were Giuseppe Della Porta Rodiani , titular patriarch of Constantinople , and Lorenzo Girolamo Mattei , titular patriarch of Antioch . In 1831 Pope Gregory XVI appointed him . to the prefect of the Congregatio de Propaganda Fide . In 1834 he also received the titular church of San Lorenzo in Damaso in Commendam . In 1837 he became prefect of the Congregation for Rites . In 1840 he was appointed cardinal bishop and bishop of the suburbicarian diocese of Porto-Santa Rufina . In 1840/1841 he was chamberlain to the College of Cardinals . He was a participant in the conclaves in 1823 , 1829 and 1830-1831 .
Pedicini was the spiritual director of the mystic Anna Maria Taigi ; he was the initiator of her beatification .
Carlo Maria Pedicini was buried in the Church of San Lorenzo in Damaso .
