Giacomo Filippo Fransoni , also Giacomo Filippo Franzoni (born December 10, 1775 in Genoa , † April 20, 1856 in Rome ) was an Italian bishop and cardinal and prefect of the congregation De Propaganda Fide .

Life

He came from an old patrician family , his father Domenico Fransoni was a senator of the Republic of Genoa . Another cardinal from the same family was Giacomo Franzoni .

Giacomo Filippo Fransoni went to Rome after his initial training in Genoa, where he obtained the academic degree of Doctor iuris utriusque on July 20, 1806 . He received on March 14, 1807. Pietro Francesco Galleffi the sacrament of Holy Orders .

On September 7, 1822 he was appointed titular archbishop pro hac vice of Nazianzus . He received his episcopal consecration on December 8, 1822 in the Benedictine Church on Campo Marzio in Rome by Cardinal Pietro Francesco Galleffi ; Co- consecrators were the Archbishops of the Curia Giovanni Francesco Falzacappa and Giuseppe Della Porta Rodiani . On January 21, 1823 Giacomo Filippo Fransoni was appointed Apostolic Nuncio in Portugal . Cardinal Fransoni died on April 20, 1856 at the age of 80 and was buried in his titular church. He was a priest for 49 years, a bishop for 33 years and a cardinal for almost 30 years.
