Giovanni Battista Quarantotti (born September 27, 1733 in Rome , † September 15, 1820 there ) was an Italian cardinal of the Roman Church .

Live and act

He came from a noble family, studied at the Collegio Romano and in 1756 entered the government service of the Papal States . He later became a member of the Order of Malta . In 1764 Quarantotti became Commander Abbot of the Monastery of S. Eutizio in Norcia . In 1770 he became an employee of the Apostolic Signature (Pontifical Court of Justice), later secretary and pro-prefect of the Congregation Propaganda Fide and prefect of Annona .

Pope Pius VII elevated him to cardinal in March 1816 in pectore , which was published on July 23 of the same year and he was appointed cardinal priest of the titular church of Santa Maria in Aracoeli . From May 1820 until his death he was Prefect of the Apostolic Signature and the Press Department in the Propaganda Fide.

He died in 1820 and was buried in the chapel of the Santo Bambino of his titular church, Santa Maria in Aracoeli .
