Pietro Cardinal Caprano

Pietro Caprano (born February 28, 1759 in Rome , † February 24, 1834 there ) was a cardinal of the Roman Church .

Life

Caprano was ordained a priest on February 23, 1782 . On March 8, 1816, he became titular archbishop of Iconium . He was ordained bishop on March 17, 1816 in the Church of San Ignazio in Rome by the cardinal major penitentiary Michele Di Pietro ; Co-consecrators were the Curia Archbishops Candido Maria Frattini and Giovanni Marchetti . He was secretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith since 1824 . Caprano was a member of the Curia and was on October 2, 1826 by Pope Leo XII. in pectore appointed cardinal, which was published on December 15, 1828, at the same time he became cardinal priest of the titular church Santi Nereo ed Achilleo . He took part in the conclave of 1829 , which Pope Pius VIII elected, and in the conclave of 1830/31 , from which Gregory XVI. emerged as Pope.

He died in 1834 and was laid out in the Church of San Marcello and, according to his will, buried in San Ignazio.
