Pope election 1061
The election of the Pope in 1061 took place on September 30, 1061 in San Pietro in Vincoli (Saint Peter in Chains) in Rome after the death of Pope Nicholas II . After the papal bull In Nomine Domini by Nicholas II, the cardinal bishops were for the first time the only voters of the Pope of the Roman Catholic Church . Bishop Anselmo de Baggio , founder of Pataria and not cardinal, was as Alexander II. Elected Pope and was on 1 October 1061 at the time of dusk in San Pietro in Vincoli for crowned Pope . A coronation in St. Peter's Basilica was not possible because of the opposition.
