Domenico De Simone (born November 29, 1768 in Benevento , † November 9, 1837 in Rome ; also Domenico De Simoni ) was an Italian cardinal of the Roman Church .

Life

He was the fifth child of the marchese Filippo De Simone, a court official of the King of Naples , and his wife Vincenza Capece Scondito. His great-uncle was the Cardinal Gennaro Antonio De Simone . Domenico De Simone was also a nephew of Cardinal Camillo de Simone . He received his basic education at the College of San Carlo a Mortella in Naples. He then went to Rome, where he attended the Collegio Nazareno from 1781 to 1788 under the care of his uncle and studied at the Academy for the Church Nobility from 1789 to 1792 .

On December 13, 1792, Domenico De Simone entered the service of the Curia as a trainee lawyer and became papal house prelate . Pius VI appointed him governor of Fabriano in 1794, a post he held until the French invasion. During the French occupation of the Papal States , he and his uncle took refuge in Naples and Benevento. After the first restoration of papal rule, he held various offices in the administration of the Papal States until he retired into private life during the second French occupation.
