The Chamberlain of the Holy College of Cardinals was responsible for the administration of the total income due to the College of Cardinals . Since the end of the 13th century, this included a share in the commune servitium , which newly appointed bishops and abbots had to pay when they were appointed. He is to be distinguished from the thesaurares of the Apostolic Chamber and from the Cardinal Chamberlain , who administered the income of the Pope and the Roman Church. The office was not filled after 1997.
