Giuseppe Maria Castelli
Giuseppe Maria Castelli (born October 4, 1705 in Milan , † April 9, 1780 in Rome ) was a cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church .
Life
After Castelli, son of a noble family from Milan, studied in Modena and Rome, he became a consultant for the Apostolic Signature . Pope Clement XII. appointed him on June 26, 1739 papal house prelate. After he had become prelate of the Council Congregation in 1751 , Benedict XIV appointed him consultor of the Index Congregation in 1753 . From December 1754 he held the same office in the Holy Office .
Pope Clement XIII. accepted him in the consistory of September 24, 1759 as cardinal priest of Santi Bonifacio ed Alessio in the college of cardinals . He then became a member of several cardinal congregations and in 1762 Commendatarabb of Santi Pietro e Paolo in Viboldone . On April 26, 1763, Cardinal Castelli became Prefect of the Congregation De Propaganda Fide . From 1766 to 1767 he was chamberlain to the College of Cardinals. He participated in the papal conclave, 1769 in part, that Clement XIV. Chose as pope, and at the conclave of 1774 bis 1775 that Pius VI. chose. Under Pius VI. he became the protector of several churches, cities and hospitals. Cardinal Castelli died in 1780 and was buried in the church of Santi Ambrogio e Carlo al Corso.
