Robert de Pontigny

Robert de Pontigny SOCist (* in the 13th century ; † October 9, 1305 in Parma ) was a cardinal of the Catholic Church.

Born in France , he entered the Cistercian order , earned a doctorate in theology and was elected Abbot of Pontigny in 1285 . In 1293 he was elected abbot of the mother abbey Citeaux and thus abbot general of his order.

Pope Celestine V elevated him to cardinal priest of S. Pudenziana on September 18, 1294 . From January 3, 1298 to 1305, Robert was treasurer of the Holy College of Cardinals , and he was a legate in France.
