Gaspare Bernardo Pianetti (born February 7, 1780 in Jesi , † January 30, 1862 in Rome ) was a cardinal of the Roman Church . He was a member of the Curia and from 1826 to 1861 Bishop of Viterbo and Toscanella .

Life

He was the son of Count Angelo Pianetti and Eleonora Buonaccorsi. Through his mother he was a great-nephew of Cardinal Simone Buonaccorsi .

Pianetti began his education in 1789 at the Collegio Nazareno in Rome and continued it at the University of Macerata , where he obtained the degree of Doctor iuris utriusque on December 6, 1803 . The ordination received Pianetti on 31 March 1804. This was followed in 1804 further studies at the Pontifical Academy for Church nobles in Rome. He became apostolic protonotary de numero participantium and auditor at the Rota Romana .

He was appointed Bishop of Viterbo and Toscanella on July 3, 1826. He was ordained bishop on August 15, 1826 in the Roman church of Santa Maria degli Angeli Pope Leo XII. personally; Co- consecrators were Filippo Filonardi , Archbishop of Ferrara , and Bishop Giuseppe Perugini , papal sacristan .

Pope Gregory XVI elevated him to cardinal on December 23, 1839 in pectore , which was published on December 14, 1840. On December 17, 1840, the titular church of San Sisto Vecchio was assigned to him. Pianetti took part in the conclave of 1846 that Pope Pius IX. chose. On March 4, 1861 , he resigned himself to the administration of the diocese. From March 18, 1861 until his death he was treasurer of the Holy College of Cardinals .

According to his will, he was buried in the Church of San Salvatore in Lauro .
