Fabio Maria Cardinal Asquini

Fabio Maria Asquini (born August 14, 1802 in Fagagna near Udine in Italy , † December 23, 1878 in Rome ) was a Curia Cardinal of the Catholic Church .

Life

After studying theology at the Collegio Ghislieri in Rome and at the Collegio Romano , where he received his doctorate theologiae , as well as law at the University of La Sapienza , Fabio Maria Asquini was ordained a priest on February 26, 1825 . In 1837 he was appointed by Pope Gregory XVI. appointed titular archbishop of Tarsus and apostolic nuncio . The episcopal ordination received his Carlo Cardinal Odescalchi . In 1839 he became secretary of the Congregation for Bishops at the Roman Curia .

In 1844 he became the Titularpatriarchen of Constantinople Opel and in pectore the Cardinal raised. Gregory XVI. took him in 1845 with the publication as a cardinal priest with the titular church of Santo Stefano al Monte Celio in the college of cardinals .

In 1847 he was taken over by Pope Pius IX. appointed Prefect of the Congregation for Indulgences and Relics . In 1863 he became prefect of the Roman Curia , from 1872 its secretary. In 1877 he opted for the titular church of San Lorenzo in Lucina .

Asquini took part in the conclave of 1846 that Pope Pius IX. elected, as well as at the conclave of 1878 , from the Leo XIII. emerged as Pope.

He died on December 23, 1878 and was buried in a family grave in his native Fagagna.
