Alexandre Schaumasse

Alexandre Schaumasse (born May 3, 1882 in Saint-Quay-Portrieux , † 1958 ) was a French astronomer .

He was seriously wounded during the First World War (1914) and spent over a year in the hospital.

He discovered three comets in total: the periodic comet 24P / Schaumasse in 1911 and the non-periodic comets C / 1913 J1 (Schaumasse) (also called 113 II) and C / 1917 H1 (Schaumasse) (or 1917 II).

He also discovered the two asteroids (971) Alsatia (on November 23, 1921) and (1114) Lorraine (on November 17, 1928). The asteroid (1797) Schaumasse is dedicated to him.
