San Salvatore in Lauro ( Latin Sancti Salvatoris in Laurum ) is a Roman Catholic Church in Rome . It is located on the banks of the Tiber opposite the Castel Sant'Angelo and was first mentioned in 1177.

19th century facade

A porch of the early Renaissance (1449-1453) burned down in 1591 and was replaced from 1594 by a new building based on plans by Ottaviano Nonni, called Mascherino . The dome and campanile were added in 1727–1734, the facade in 1857–1862. The structure of the single-nave interior is influenced by the churches of Andrea Palladio . In the former refectory of the associated monastery (closed) are the remains of the tomb of Pope Eugen IV (Fig.) .

The church was founded on November 24, 2007 by Pope Benedict XVI. elevated to title diakonia after she was already a title church of a cardinal from 1587 to 1670 . Cardinal Deacon has been Angelo Cardinal Comastri since 2007 .
