Niccolò d'Acciapaccio (* 1382 in Sorrento ; † April 3, 1447 in Rome ) came from a noble family, studied law in Naples and was a doctor of both rights ( Doctor iuris utriusque ) adviser to Queen Joan I of Naples . Since September 17, 1410 he was Bishop of Tropea , he received the episcopal ordination on December 11, 1410.

He was Archbishop of Capua from February 18, 1436 and cardinal of the Roman Church from December 18, 1439 . The appointment as bishop and archbishop as well as the cardinal elevation was made by Pope Eugene IV , who gave him the titular church of San Marcello in the cardinalate in 1440 . For his admission to the College of Cardinals, as with the simultaneous appointment of other cardinals, political proportionality played a central role: Niccolò was part of René I of Anjou ; Alfonso I of Naples forced him to go into exile in 1440, but later allowed his return.

Niccolò was a member of the commission for the canonization of Bernhard of Siena . Shortly before his death, he took part in the conclave for the election of Pope Nicholas V from March 4 to 6, 1447. He was buried in St. Peter's Basilica.
