Tiberio Muti

Tiberio Muti (* 1574 in Rome , † April 14, 1636 in Viterbo ) was an Italian bishop and cardinal.

biography

Muti was born in Rome in 1574 as the third of nine children of Carlo Muti, Duke of Valle Mutia and ambassador of the Duke of Savoy to Pope Sixtus V , and Faustina Muti. He was a relative of Pope Paul V. His first name is also given as Liberio; his last name as de Mutis.

From 1609 to 1611 he was canon of the Vatican Basilica and cupbearer of the Pope.

On December 19, 1611 he was elected Bishop of Viterbo. He was consecrated on Sunday, January 15, 1612, in the Sistine Chapel by Cardinal Scipione Caffarelli-Borghese . The co-consecrators were Fabio Blondus de Montealto, Patriarch of Jerusalem , and Antonio Ricci , Bishop of Arezzo .

On December 2, 1615 he was appointed cardinal priest in the consistory ; on December 5, 1615 he received the red hat and on January 11, 1616 the cardinal title Santa Prisca . He participated in the conclave of 1621 that Pope Gregory XV. elected, and from 1623 that Pope Urban VIII elected, participated. From January 8, 1629 to January 7, 1630 he was Camerlengo of the Holy College of Cardinals .

He died on April 14, 1636 at the age of 62 and was buried in Viterbo Cathedral.
