Lanfranco Margotti (born September 1559 in Colorno , † November 28, 1611 in Rome ) was an Italian cardinal and bishop.

biography

He was born in Colorno (Parma) in 1559 to an unknown family. He probably completed his law degree at a northern Italian university. He entered the Parma Chamber of Notaries on January 23, 1574. Between 1586 and 1587 he was a notary at the Apostolic Nuncio in Prague. In 1592 he went to Rome, where he was entrusted with the State Secretariat in the service of Cardinal Cinzio Aldobrandini . On this occasion he was able to show his skills in the preparation of important diplomatic dispatches, which earned him the admiration of the papal curia.

Minucci received the bishopric of Zadar in 1596 and had to give up his post in the State Secretariat. In May of the same year he became secretary to Cardinal Cinzio Aldobrandini Passeri. After Aldobrandini left the Curia because of disagreements with the Pope, Minucci played an important role as mediator between Clement VIII and the cardinal, negotiating the terms of the cardinal's return. Thanks to the favor at the papal court, he soon became a canon in San Giovanni in Laterano and received the commendation in the Abbazia di San Crisogono in Zadar .

In 1605 he was appointed Apostolic Protonotary .

Pope Paul V elevated him to the rank of cardinal in the consistory on November 24, 1608 , combined with the title of cardinal priest of San Callisto .

He died on November 28, 1611 of an infection resulting from an injury to his right arm and was buried in the Basilica of San Pietro in Vincoli .
