Raffaele Scapinelli Di Leguigno
Raffaele Cardinal Scapinelli Di Leguigno (born April 25, 1858 in Modena , Italy , † September 16, 1933 in Forte dei Marmi , Province of Lucca ) was a Curia Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church .
Life
Raffaele Scapinelli Di Leguigno studied Catholic theology and philosophy in the seminary of Reggio nell'Emilia and in Rome . He received a doctorate in both canon law and civil law and received the sacrament of ordination in 1884 . After further studies, he became professor of canon law at the seminary of Reggio nell'Emilia in 1887 , and in 1889 he entered the service of the Vatican State Secretariat . From 1891 to 1894 he worked as secretary for the Apostolic Nunciature in Portugal , from 1894 to 1905 he performed various tasks at the Apostolic Nunciature in the Netherlands . In 1905 he was appointed Apostolic Protonotary and Secretary of the Commission for the Codification of Canon Law, in 1908 he was assigned the same task in the Curial Department for Extraordinary Ecclesiastical Affairs. He also worked as an advisor to the Holy Office and the Consistorial Congregation .
1912 appointed him Pope Pius X to Titular Archbishop of Laodicea ad Libanum and ordered him to the apostolic nuncio in Austria-Hungary . The episcopal ordination received Raffaele Di Scapinelli Leguigno by Cardinal Rafael Merry del Val y Zulueta ; Co-consecrators were Vittorio Amedeo Ranuzzi de 'Bianchi and Agostino Zampini . Pope Benedict XV took him on December 6, 1915 as a cardinal priest with the titular church of San Girolamo dei Croati (degli Schiavoni) in the college of cardinals and in 1918 appointed him cardinal prefect of the religious congregation .
Raffaele Scapinelli Di Leguigno died on September 16, 1933 in Forte dei Marmi and was buried in the Campo Verano cemetery in Rome.
