Agostino Zampini

Agostino Zampini OESA (born August 22, 1858 in Florence , † June 6, 1937 in Vatican City ) was an Italian clergyman, titular Bishop of Porphyreon , sacristan of the Apostolic Palace and His Holiness's general vicar for Vatican City.

Life

He entered the order of Augustinian Hermits on February 2, 1880 and made profession on February 12, 1881 . He was ordained a priest on April 12, 1884. From 1884 to 1894 he worked at the Church of Santa Maria in Selva di Borgo in Buggiano , then in Rome at the Church of Santa Monica . From 1895 to 1901 he was secretary of his order, later prior of Sant'Agostino in Rome. In 1907 he was elected Provincial of the Order in Tuscany .

On December 6, 1910, Agostino Zampini was appointed titular bishop of Porphyreon and sacristan of the Apostolic Palace as well as vicar general of the Pope for Vatican City. He was ordained bishop on January 6, 1911 in the Church of Sant'Agostino by Cardinal Rafael Merry del Val y Zulueta ; Co- consecrators were Pietro Alfonso Jorio (Iorio), former Archbishop of Taranto , and Bishop Pietro La Fontaine .

Agostino Zampini died on June 6, 1937 in the Apostolic Palace .
