Alessandro Giustiniani

Alessandro Giustiniani (born February 3, 1778 in Genoa , † October 11, 1843 ibid) was an Italian cardinal of the Roman Church .

Life

Alessandro Giustiniani graduated in law at the University of La Sapienza in Rome , at which it also on July 17, 1816 doctorate and doctorate in civil and canon law earned. It was not until the age of 39 that Giustiniani decided to become a priest , so that he did not start studying theology until April 23, 1818 . In the course of his studies he served the church as vice delegate in Ferrara and as internuncio in Naples .

Giustiniani's ordination took place on April 6, 1822. In the same month, on April 19, 1822, he was appointed titular archbishop of Petra in Palestine . He was ordained bishop on April 21, 1822 by Cardinal Giulio Maria della Somaglia . On April 24, 1827 Giustiniani was appointed Apostolic Nuncio in Portugal ; he remained so until 1832.

In the consistory of September 30, 1831 Pope Gregory XVI took him . initially in pectore to the College of Cardinals , but did not announce his election until July 2, 1832. After receiving the cardinal ring and biretta on December 18, 1834 , Giustiniani was given the title church of Santa Croce in Gerusalemme as cardinal priest .

From January 1842 to January 1843 Giustiniani held the office of chamberlain of the Holy Cardinals College.

After his death, at the age of 65, his remains were buried in the Church of San Francesco in Albaro .
