Domenico Ginnasi
Domenico Ginnasi (* 19th June 1551 in Castel Bolognese at Imola , † March 12 (according to other data: March 13 ) 1639 in Rome ) was a cardinal of the Roman Church .
Life
Ginnasi, the third child of the doctor Francesco Ginnasi and the noblewoman Caterina Pallantieri , studied in Bologna . In 1572 he received his doctorate in both rights . Ginnasi worked for the Curia for many years and became Archbishop of Manfredonia in 1586 , an office he held until 1607. He was ordained bishop on December 28, 1586 in the Sistine Chapel by Cardinal Decio Azzolini ; Co- consecrators were Giulio Ricci , Bishop of Teramo , and Vincenzo Casali , Bishop of Massa Marittima .
From 1598 to 1600 he was apostolic nuncio in Tuscany , from 1600 to 1605 in Madrid . Pope Clement VIII raised Ginnasi to cardinal on June 9, 1604 and awarded him the titular church of San Pancrazio . In 1606 he moved to the titular church Santi XII Apostoli (until 1624) and from 1624 to 1626 he officiated as Cardinal Priest of San Lorenzo in Lucina . Between 1618 and 1619 Cardinal Ginnasi was Camerlengo of the Holy College . Admitted to the class of Cardinal Bishops in 1626 , he was Cardinal Bishop of Palestrina until 1629 and Cardinal Bishop of Porto e Santa Rufina from 1629 to 1630 . From 1630 until his death, Ginnasi was dean of the College of Cardinals and was also Cardinal Bishop of Ostia .
The cardinal died of gout . He was buried in the chapel of Santa Maria sopra Minerva .
Ginnasi's former palace is located in Rome on the corner of Via dell 'Arco di Ginnasi and Via delle Botteghe Oscure and was restored in 1936. The Collegio Ginnasi was created on Castel Bolognese .
