Giberto III. Borromeo (born September 28, 1615 in Milan , † January 6, 1672 in Nettuno near Rome ) was a member of the Lombard - Piedmontese noble family Borromeo and a cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

Giberto Borromeo was the second son of Carlo III. Borromeo and Isabella D'Adda were born. He was of Jesuit educated, first in Brera , then in Pavia , where in 1636 he graduated in Law gained, who was regarded as a prerequisite for further career as a churchman in Rome, where he worked from 1638th

With the election of Innocent X as pope in 1644, Giberto entered the service of his Pamphili family in the form of the young Camillo Pamphili . In 1645 he took part in the Legation to Avignon . On February 19, 1652, Pope Innocent X appointed him cardinal in pectore and published his name on March 2, 1654. From March 23, 1654, he was cardinal priest of Santi Giovanni e Paolo from January 14, 1664 to January 12 1665 Chamberlain of the Holy College of Cardinals . In 1657 he went to Emilia-Romagna as a cardinal for three years.

After his father's death in 1652, he continued work on the Borromean Palace on Isola Bella .

Giberto Borromeo died in 1672. His grave is in the church of Santi Ambrogio e Carlo al Corso in Rome.
