Alessandro Sanminiatelli Zabarella

Alessandro Cardinal Sanminiatelli Zabarella (born August 3, 1840 in Radicondoli , † November 24, 1910 in Monte Castello di Vibio ) was Latin Patriarch of Constantinople and Cardinal of the Curia .

Life

The son of Ferdinando Sanminiatelli Zabarella and his wife Leopolda Pescatori di Peccioli attended the Archbishop's Seminary in Pisa and the Almo Collegio Capranica in Rome in 1857. He attended the Pontifical Roman Seminary , where he obtained a doctorate in philosophy (1860) and in theology ( 1864).

Zabarella received on 6 September 1863. He was ordained bishop by Pope Pius IX. even on August 14th of the same year; Co-consecrators were Giuseppe Angelini , auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Rome , and Francesco Marinelli , papal sacristan . Pope Leo XIII. entrusted him on August 23, 1887 the office of President of the Vatican Judicial Commission and on November 29, 1887 the office of Auditor General of the Apostolic Chamber .

On June 19, 1899 Leo XIII took him. as cardinal in pectore into the college of cardinals . Three days later he was appointed Latin Patriarch of Constantinople . This was announced publicly on April 15, 1901 by the appointment of Cardinal Priest by Santi Marcellino e Pietro . As treasurer of the Holy College of Cardinals from June 22, 1903 to March 27, 1905, he administered the income to which the College of Cardinals was entitled as a whole, and took part in the 1903 conclave that Pius X elected.

The cardinal died on November 24, 1910 at the age of 70 in Monte Castello di Vibio and was buried in the Campo Verano cemetery.
