Francesco Cardinal Ragonesi (born December 21, 1850 in Bagnaia , Province of Viterbo , Italy , † September 14, 1931 in Poggio a Caiano , Province of Prato ) was a Vatican diplomat and later Curia Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

Francesco Ragonesi completed his studies in Viterbo and Rome with doctorates in philosophy , theology , canon law and civil law . After his ordination he worked for a short time in pastoral care before teaching history and biblical theology at the seminary in Viterbo from 1879 . From 1885 to 1904 he was Vicar General of the Diocese of Viterbo . In 1889 Leo XIII drew it . with the title of Pontifical House Prelate .

On September 14, 1904, Pope Pius X appointed him Apostolic Delegate for Colombia and Titular Archbishop of Myra . The episcopal ordination received his Rafael Cardinal Merry del Val y Zulueta , the Cardinal Secretary of State , the same year on September 25; Co- consecrators were Antonio Maria Grasselli , Bishop of Viterbo, and Domenico Rinaldini , Bishop of Montefiascone . From 1913 to 1921 he represented the Holy See in Spain as Apostolic Nuncio . In 1921 Pope Benedict XV took him . as a cardinal priest with the titular church of San Marcello in the college of cardinals . Cardinal Ragonesi attended the 1922 conclave the following year . In May 1924 he was papal representative at a Eucharist congress in Lazio. Pope Pius XI appointed Francesco Ragonesi in 1926 cardinal prefect of the Supreme Court of the Apostolic Signature . From December 17, 1928 to July 17, 1929 he was treasurer of the College of Cardinals.

Cardinal Ragonesi died on September 14, 1931 during a recreational stay in the mother house of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Poggio a Caiano .
