The Province of Prato (Italian Provincia di Prato ) is an Italian province in the Tuscany region . It has 258,152 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in seven municipalities on an area of 365 km². The capital is Prato .
The province, which was spun off in 1992 from the province of Florence (now the metropolitan city of Florence ), borders in the north on the metropolitan city of Bologna in the Emilia-Romagna region , in the east and south on the metropolitan city of Florence and in the west on the province of Pistoia .
