Carmignano is an Italian commune and a wine-growing region with 14,832 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Prato , Tuscany .
geography
The community lies at an altitude of 189 m slm . The Ombrone Pistoiese River flows in the eastern municipality .
The neighboring municipalities are Capraia e Limite ( FI ), Lastra a Signa (FI), Montelupo Fiorentino (FI), Poggio a Caiano , Prato , Quarrata ( PT ), Signa (FI) and Vinci (FI).

Legend has it that in 1211, when Saint Francis preached in the Carmignano area, he received a piece of land from the parish. At this place outside the city fortifications, his brother Bernhard von Quintavalle [3] built a convent and an oratory . In the following years the town grew and the church was incorporated and converted into a parish church. It houses a painting by Jacopo Pontormo , which is known as the " Visitation " and was painted around 1528.
