Giuseppe Andrea Albani (born September 13, 1750 in Rome , † December 3, 1834 in Pesaro ) was a cardinal of the Catholic Church .

Life

Cardinal Albani came from a respected Italian family, descendants of Albanian religious refugees ( Arbëresh ) who immigrated to Italy in the 15th century. He studied at the seminary of Siena and later in Rome. Pope Clement XIV awarded him the title of papal house prelate . Under Pius VI. In 1787 he became an auditor of the Apostolic Chamber . In 1794 he was sent to Vienna to negotiate an alliance between the Papal States and Emperor Franz II . After the French occupation of Rome, Albani tried in vain to Pius VI.
