Gian Girolamo Albani
Gian Girolamo Albani (born January 3, 1504 in Bergamo , † April 15, 1591 in Rome ) was an Italian cardinal of the Roman Church .
Life
Albani came from a family who immigrated from Albania to Italy in the 15th century , from which other cardinals ( Annibale Albani , Alessandro Albani , Gian Francesco Albani and Giuseppe Albani ) as well as the later Pope Clement XI. (actually Gianfrancesco Albani) have come down to us.
Gian Girolamo Albani was on the road for the Roman Curia in numerous diplomatic missions, among other things to unite the Christian princes against the Turks. Without ever having received the ordination of deacons , he was elevated to cardinal priest in the consistory of May 17, 1570 by Pope Pius V and received the titular church of San Giovanni a Porta Latina . Albani took part in the 1585 conclave that Sixtus V chose. He was a friend of the poet Torquato Tasso , a recognized canonist and editor of various studies.
