Tiberio Crispo

Tiberio Crispo , also Crispi (born January 31, 1498 in Rome , † October 10, 1566 in Sutri ) was a cardinal of the Roman Church .

Life

He was the son of Vincenzo Crispi and Silvia Ruffini, a concubine of Cardinal Alessandro Farnese the Elder, who later became Paul III. Became Pope. His half-sister was Costanza Farnese , the daughter of the cardinal through his mother . He studied the fine arts. From 1542 to 1545 he was Prefect of Castel Sant'Angelo and supervised most of the work of Pierino del Vaga and his assistants in the castle.

On July 6, 1543 he was appointed Bishop of Sessa Aurunca and held this bishopric until June 7, 1546.

Pope Paul III appointed him in the consistory of December 19, 1544 cardinal deacon and awarded him the cardinal's hat and the title deaconry Sant'Agata alla Suburra on January 9 of the following year . He was a participant in the conclave 1549-1550 , in which Julius III. was elected Pope. On November 20, 1551 he was promoted to cardinal priest , his diakonia became pro hac vice to the title church . Tiberio Crispo took part in both the first and second conclave of 1555 , when Marcellus II and Paul IV were elected pope. From January 27, 1559 to January 15, 1561 he was Camerlengo of the College of Cardinals . Again he was among the cardinals who met for the conclave in 1559 , from which Pius IV emerged as Pope. On May 18, 1562 he moved to the titular church of Santa Maria in Trastevere . From January 19, 1565 until his death he was administrator of the diocese of Nepi e Sutri . Finally, on November 7, 1565, he became cardinal bishop of the suburbicarian diocese of Sabina . As such, he took part in the conclave 1565-1566 , which Pope Pius V elected.

Tiberio Crispo died of a fever in early October 1566 and was first buried in the cathedral of Sutri, later his body was transferred to Capranica and buried in the main church there.
