Ciriaco Rocci

Ciriaco Rocci (born August 8, 1582 in Rome ; † September 25, 1651 there ) was an Italian archbishop and cardinal .

biography

As the son of Bernardino Rocci and Clarice Arrigoni, he was a member of a noble Cremonic family and nephew of Cardinal Pompeo Arrigoni .

He studied literature and entered the Roman Curia in 1606, during the pontificate of Pope Paul V , as Abbreviator des parco maggiore . In 1620 he became governor of Viterbo and from 1624 to 1628 he was vice delegate in Ferrara .

On May 29, 1628 he was named titular archbishop of Patras . From 1628 to 1630 he was papal nuncio in Switzerland , then from 1630 to 1634 at the imperial court in Vienna .

In the consistory of November 19, 1629 Pope Urban VIII appointed him cardinal in pectore , this was published on November 28, 1633. On May 31, 1635 he returned to Rome and on August 13 of the same year received the titular church of San Salvatore in Lauro . From 1637 to 1640 he was legate of Ferrara , where he wrote the treatise Erotica Dottrina under the pseudonym Minchius Maximus .

Rocci took part in the 1644 conclave , which Pope Innocent X elected.

He died in Rome and was buried in the family grave in the church of Santa Maria in Monserrato .
