Jacopo Ammannati (also Iacopo , since his admission, around 1455, into the family of the later Pope Pius II. Jacopo Ammannati Piccolomini , also known as Giacomo Ammannati Piccolomini ; * March 8, 1422 near Lucca ; † September 10, 1479 in San Lorenzo near Bolsena ) was an Italian scholar and cardinal of the Renaissance .

Life

Jacopo received literary and theological training. Under Nicholas V he went to Rome. In 1450 he became the private secretary of Cardinal Domenico Capranica , later to Calixt III. Pope Pius II appointed him Bishop of Pavia in 1460 and made him cardinal on December 18, 1461. San Crisogono was assigned to him as the titular church. On August 17, 1477 he was raised to Cardinal Bishop of Frascati .

Cardinal Ammannati was a friend of students and scholars ; Jacopo da Volterra was his secretary. He maintained friendships with the cardinals Juan Carvajal , Bartolomeo Roverella and Bessarion .
