Giovanni Archinto
Giovanni Archinto (* around 1732, according to other information on August 10, 1736 in Milan ; † February 9, 1799 there ) was a cardinal of the Roman Church .
Life
Archinto was the nephew of the cardinals Alberico Archinto (1756) and Vitaliano Borromeo (1766) on his mother's side . He was of the same sex as Cardinal Giuseppe Archinto (1699).
After studying at the University of La Sapienza in Rome, where he arrived July 27, 1759 for Doctor of Laws doctorate was, he received the on December 23, 1759 subdiaconate , on March 2, 1760 diaconate and on March 3, 1760 ordination .
Since 1758 private chamberlain of Pope Clement XIII. , he was on September 20, 1759 trainee lawyer for the Apostolic Signature and finally from 1759 to 1763 vice delegate in Bologna. After the death of Clement XIV on September 22, 1774, the College of Cardinals appointed Archinto governor of the conclave .
On April 15, 1776 by Pope Pius VI. elevated to cardinal in pectore , this published his name on May 20, 1776 and made him cardinal priest of the titular church Santi XII Apostoli on July 15, 1776 . Since 1781 Prefect of the Congregation of Rites and from 1785 to 1786 also Camerlengo of the College of Cardinals , Archinto became Cardinal Bishop of Sabina on June 1, 1795 . After the conquest of Rome by the French and the subsequent proclamation of the Roman Republic in 1798, he was expelled from Rome and took up residence in Milan, where he died shortly afterwards.
