Giuseppe Archinto (born May 7, 1651 in Milan ; † April 9, 1712 there ) was a cardinal of the Roman Church .

Life

After attending the Jesuit school in Milan, he began his studies in philosophy and theology at the Seminario Romano and also attended the universities in Ingolstadt and Pavia , where he obtained his doctorate iuris utriusque in 1665 .

Since August 22, 1679 with the honorary title of Apostolic Protonotary , he was Commendatabbot of San Giovanni Battista di Vertemate and of San Giovanni delle Vigne . From Pope Innocent XI. Appointed to Rome in 1679, he was deputy delegate of Bologna from 1679 to 1685 and from 1683 trainee lawyer at the Tribunal of the Apostolic Signature .

On March 18, 1686 he was appointed titular archbishop of Thessalonica . The episcopal consecration donated him on March 31, 1686 the Cardinal Bishop of Albano Flavio Chigi .

Giuseppe Archinto became nuncio in the Grand Duchy of Tuscany on April 22, 1686 and nuncio in the Republic of Venice on December 15, 1689 . Since January 13, 1696 nuncio in Spain , he returned to Italy in August 1700, since he had been appointed Archbishop of Milan on May 18, 1699 . From Pope Innocent XII. Raised cardinal on November 14, 1699, he appointed him cardinal priest of the titular church of Santa Prisca on March 14, 1701 . Pope Clement XI. sent him as a legate a latere to the wedding of King Philip of Spain with Maria Luisa Gabriella of Savoy on August 8, 1701 .
