Domenico Pinelli
Domenico Pinelli (born October 21, 1541 in Genoa , † August 9, 1611 in Rome ) was a cardinal of the Roman Church and cardinal dean .
Life
Pinelli came from a family of senators from Genoa. He was at the University of Padua until 1562 . Called to Rome in 1563, he has worked in the service of the Curia ever since . From 1577 to 1585 Pinelli was Archbishop of Fermo . He was elevated to cardinal dignity on December 18, 1585 by Pope Sixtus V , his uncle, and installed as a cardinal priest of the titular church of San Crisogono in mid-January 1586 . From 1586 he was papal legate in Umbria and Perugia (1591), among others . In 1602 he changed the titular church and received Santa Maria in Trastevere . In the pontificate of Clement VIII Domenico Pirelli was successively Cardinal Bishop of Albano (1603), of Frascati (1603 to 1605) and under Paul V of Porto e Santa Rufina (1605 to 1607). In 1607 he was promoted to Prefect of the Congregation of Rites , shortly afterwards he became Dean of the College of Cardinals and, associated with it, Cardinal Bishop of Ostia and Velletri . Cardinal Pinelli held all three offices from 1607 until his death in 1611.
He was buried in the Roman basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore .
