Camillo Paolucci
Camillo Paolucci (born December 9, 1692 in Forlì , † June 11, 1763 in Rome ) was a papal diplomat and cardinal .
Life
Camillo Paolucci, nephew of Cardinal Secretary of State Fabrizio Paolucci , studied civil and canon law and in 1714 became canon of the cathedral chapter of the Lateran Basilica . In 1718 Pope Clement XI awarded him . the title of papal house prelate and appointed him advisor of the apostolic signature . On December 23, 1719 he was ordained a priest . Under Pope Innocent XIII. he became a lieutenant in the Vicariate of Rome. His uncle Fabrizio Paolucci appointed him vicar general of his diocese of Porto e Santa Rufina in 1724 .
Pope Benedict XIII appointed Paolucci on July 2, 1724 titular Archbishop of Iconium . The episcopal ordination donated him on August 2 of that year, his uncle Fabrizio Paolucci. Co- consecrators were the future Cardinal Prospero Marefoschi and Tommaso Cervini , titular archbishop of Nicomedia . In June 1727 he became extraordinary nuncio in Poland, and in 1728 he became apostolic nuncio. Pope Clement XII. appointed Paolucci in 1738 as Apostolic Nuncio in Austria, which he remained until 1745.
Pope Benedict XIV already accepted him on September 9, 1743 into the College of Cardinals . Due to the succession struggles in Germany, it was not possible for him to come to Rome until 1746. Only then could the Pope assign him the titular church of Santi Giovanni e Paolo . In the same year Cardinal Paolucci became Apostolic Legate in Ferrara. He stayed in Ferrara until 1750. In September 1756 Benedict XIV assigned him the titular church of Santa Maria in Trastevere . After his death, Cardinal Paolucci took part in the conclave in 1758 . He publicly opposed the election of Pope Clement XIII. This took him on in November 1758 in the ranks of the cardinal bishops and assigned him the diocese of Frascati . Three years later he became Cardinal Bishop of Porto e Santa Rufina and Cardinal Subdean .
Camillo Paolucci died in 1763 at the age of 70 and was buried in the church of San Marcello al Corso in Rome. Twenty cardinals attended the funeral mass for him.
