Fabrizio Serbelloni
Fabrizio Serbelloni (born November 4, 1695 in Milan , † December 7, 1775 in Rome ) was an Italian cardinal of the Roman Church .
Life
Fabrizio Serbelloni came from a patrician family in Milan . He studied at the University of Pavia , where he received his doctorate as Doctor iuris utriusque . In 1726 he was Grand Inquisitor in Malta .
He was ordained a priest in 1731 and was named titular archbishop of Patras that same year . From 1735 to 1738 he was the permanent nuncio in Cologne . As nuncio at the Polish royal court from 1738 to 1746 and as nuncio at the imperial court in Vienna from 1746 to 1754 he represented the interests of the Holy See .
In 1753 Fabrizio Serbelloni was elevated to cardinal priest . The titular church of Santi Ambrogio e Carlo was assigned to him. In 1763 he exchanged this with the titular church of Santa Maria in Trastevere . In 1764 he exchanged again for the titular church of Santo Stefano al Monte Celio . He then worked as a legate. He was appointed Cardinal Bishop of Albano in 1763 and Cardinal Bishop of Ostia in 1774 . At the same time, as cardinal dean, he was the highest-ranking member of the college of cardinals and, as such, headed the conclave , which on February 15, 1775 Pius VI. elected to the Pope.
He died in Rome at the age of 80 and was buried in his titular church, Santi Ambrogio e Carlo .
