Prospero Marefoschi
Prospero Marefoschi (born September 24, 1653 in Monte Santo della Marca , † February 24, 1732 in Rome ) was an Italian cardinal to the Curia .
Life
Prospero was the youngest of the four children of Camillo Marefoschi and his wife Speranza Guarnieri. Two of his nephews, Raniero Felice Simonetti and Mario Compagnoni Marefoschi , later also became cardinals. Prospero Marefoschi studied at the University of Fermo , where he obtained the academic degree of Doctor iuris utriusque on April 29, 1674 . After that he moved to Rome and settled there as a lawyer. From the end of 1695 he worked at the courts of the Apostolic Signature . Shortly afterwards he was appointed auditor to the cardinal chamberlain. During the pontificate of Pope Clement XI.Prospero Marefoschi was secretary of the Congregation for the Administration of Goods and canon of the Vatican Basilica . From July 1705 he was secretary of the Congregation for Ecclesiastical Immunity . Prospero Marefoschi received the on December 21, 1709 diaconate .
On June 1, 1711 Prospero Marefoschi was appointed titular Archbishop of Cyrene . He received his episcopal ordination on June 7th of the same year in the Roman Church of Santo Spirito in Sassia by Cardinal Fabrizio Paolucci ; Co-consecrators were the Archbishops Ferdinando Nuzzi and Domenico de Zaoli , formerly Bishop of Veroli . At the same time, the later Cardinal Giorgio Spinola received the episcopal ordination. On January 26, 1712 he was appointed papal assistant to the throne and in October of the same year Uditore Santissimi . The newly elected Pope Innocent XIII. confirmed this on May 26, 1721. Already on February 3, 1721 Marefoschi had been transferred to the titular Archdiocese of Caesarea in Cappadocia . Again Pope Benedict XIII confirmed him . as Uditore Santissimi .
In the consistory of December 20, 1724, Benedict XIII created him cardinal priest . Marefoschi received the red hat and the titular church of San Crisogono on January 29, 1725. On November 19 of the same year he opted for the titular church of San Callisto . Prospero Marefoschi was appointed Vicar General of Rome on June 13, 1726 . On September 20, 1728 he opted for the titular church of San Silvestro in Capite . He was a participant in the conclave of 1730 , from which Clemens XII. emerged as Pope.
Prospero Marefoschi died on February 24, 1732 around 6 a.m. in Rome and was buried in the local church of San Salvatore in Lauro , where an inscription above the door of the sacristy commemorated him.
