Ferdinando Nuzzi

Ferdinando Nuzzi (born September 10, 1645 in Orte ; † December 1, 1717 in Orvieto ) was an Italian clergyman, bishop of Orvieto and cardinal of the Roman Church .

Life

He was the third of six children of Count Giacomo Nuzzi and his wife, Marianna Persiani. The mother's first name is also given as Samaritana, the family called her Maritana. The father's family came from Todi . Ferdinando Nuzzi moved to Rome in 1654 and studied there at the Jesuit college and at the University of La Sapienza , where he obtained the Doctor iuris utriusque . He was an advocate for the Roman Curia , worked for the Apostolic Chamber and at the tribunals of the Apostolic Signature . In November 1692 he became a canon of the Vatican Basilica . After further offices in the Curia and the administration of the Papal States , he was born on June 7th, 1706 Titular Archbishop of Nicaea and on June 24, 1706 assistant at the pontifical throne .

In the consistory of December 16, 1715, Pope Clement XI. him cardinal priest , the cardinal's hat and the titular church of Santa Pudenziana were awarded to him on February 5, 1716. On March 30th of the same year he was appointed Bishop of Orvieto with the personal title of Archbishop .

Ferdinando Nuzzi died at his bishopric in Orvieto and was buried in the cathedral there. The tomb that his nephew Innocenzo had erected for him was later removed.

Services

Ferdinando Nuzzi had the Palazzo Nuzzi built in Orte and in 1702 published a publication Discorso intorno alla coltivazione della Campagna di Roma .
