Giovanni Antonio Guadagni OCD (born September 14, 1674 in Florence , † January 15, 1759 in Rome ) was an Italian cardinal of the Roman Church .

Life

He was the only child of Marchese Donato Guadagni and Maddalena Corsini, a sister of Lorenzo Corsini, who later became Pope Clement XII. On May 11, 1702, Guadagni was ordained a priest for the Order of the Discalced Carmelites. On December 20, 1724 he was appointed Bishop of Arezzo . He received his episcopal ordination on December 31, 1724, his uncle Cardinal Lorenzo Corsini; Co- consecrators were Cardinal Pietro Luigi Carafa and Filippo Spada , Bishop of Pesaro ; he held the office of bishop in Arezzo until November 4, 1732. Guadagni was on September 24, 1731 by Pope Clement XII. created cardinal and on December 17th of the same year appointed cardinal priest with the titular church Santi Silvestro e Martino ai Monti . He was also from 1738 to 1759 Commendatarabbot of the Abbey of Santa Maria di Grottaferrata . On February 23, 1750 he was appointed Bishop of Frascati and on January 12, 1756 Bishop of Porto e Santa Rufina and thus appointed Vice Dean of the College of Cardinals. He took part in the conclave in 1740 and in the conclave in 1758 .
