Giacomo Filippo Nini (* 1629 in Siena , † August 11, 1680 in Rome ) was an Italian cardinal .

biography

Giacomo Filippo Nini (sometimes referred to as Jacopo) was born in Siena in 1629 as the son of a Sienese patrician family.

He completed his studies in Rome and then returned to his hometown of Siena, where he met Cardinal Fabio Chigi (later Pope Alexander VII ) on his return from his nunciature in Cologne in 1652 . Chigi wanted him with him in Rome, where he worked in the State Secretariat of the Papal States under the direction of the powerful cardinal.

Ordained a priest , he became a canon of the Liberiana Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome and, in 1656, secretary of the memorials. Appointed Commendatarabbot of San Cristoforo di Bergamo in Acqui Terme , he was Prefect of the Apostolic Palace and the Cubicolo di Sua Santità (1664–1666).

On April 28, 1664 he was elected titular archbishop of Corinthus and then received the episcopal ordination .

In the consistory of January 14, 1664 , Giacomo Filippo Nini was appointed cardinal in pectore , this was made public on February 15, 1666. On March 15 of the same year he received the cardinal's hat and the titular church of Santa Maria della Pace . He took part in the conclave of 1667 , in which Clement IX. was elected pontiff, and again at the conclave of 1669-1670 , in which Clement X was elected. He again took part in the conclave of 1676 , in which Innocent XI. was chosen. At the end of these conclaves he was elected chamberlain of the Holy College of Cardinals on January 9, 1679 and remained in office until January 8, 1680.

He died in Rome on August 11, 1680 and was buried the next day in the grave of the Liberian canons.
