Cardinal Giovanni Piccolomini

Giovanni Piccolomini (born October 9, 1475 in Siena , † November 21, 1537 there ) was a cardinal of the Catholic Church.

Life

Archbishop of Siena since 1503 , Pope Leo X elevated Giovanni Piccolomini to cardinal on July 1, 1517 and made him cardinal priest of the titular church of S. Sabina on July 6, 1517 . After he moved to the titular church of Santa Balbina on June 11, 1521 , Piccolomini became Bishop of Sion (Switzerland) in 1522 and Apostolic Administrator of the diocese of L'Aquila on July 6, 1523 . Since July 24, 1524 Cardinal Bishop of Albano , on November 14, 1524 he was also Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Umbriatico . After he renounced the diocese of L'Aquila on July 3, 1525, he resigned on April 7, 1529 also to the archdiocese of Siena. He also renounced the diocese of Umbriatico on March 20, 1531 and finally switched to the suburbicarian diocese of Palestrina on September 22, 1531 and from there on September 26, 1533 to the suburbicarian diocese of Porto e Santa Rufina . He was then Vice Dean of the College of Cardinals . When he finally moved to the suburbicarian diocese of Ostia on February 26, 1535 , he also became dean of the college of cardinals .
