Francesco Cornaro (the elder) (* 1478 in Venice , † September 26, 1543 in Viterbo ) was a cardinal of the Catholic Church .

Life

Pope Clement VII elevated him to cardinal on December 20, 1527 and appointed him cardinal priest of the titular church of San Pancrazio on April 27, 1528 . Cornaro was apostolic administrator from 1531 to 1532 and, after receiving his episcopal ordination by Clement VII on December 21, 1531, from 1532 to 1543, bishop of the diocese of Brescia . He moved to the titular church of Santa Cecilia on April 27, 1537 as a cardinal priest . As early as September 5, 1534 cardinal priest of San Ciriaco alle Terme Diocleziane , he became cardinal priest of Santa Prassede on May 31, 1535 and moved to the titular church of Santa Maria in Trastevere on March 23, 1541 . From here he became Cardinal Bishop of Albano on November 14, 1541 and switched to Palestrina as Cardinal Bishop on February 15, 1542 .
