Andrea Cornaro also Corner (born December 18, 1511 in Venice , † January 30, 1551 in Rome ) was a cardinal of the Catholic Church and Bishop of Brescia .

Life

Andrea Cornaro was destined for an ecclesiastical career at an early age: at the age of about twelve, in 1523, he received the Abbey of San Zeno in Verona as Commendatar Abbot . On March 13, 1532, Pope Clement VII appointed the native Venetian bishop of the diocese of Brescia . Until he reached canonical age, he was only an administrator of the diocese . Cornaro remained Bishop of Brescia until his death in 1551. Pope Paul III. created Cornaro in the consistory of December 19, 1544 as cardinal. On January 9, 1545, as a cardinal deacon , he took possession of the title deaconry of San Teodoro al Palatino . Cornaro was a participant in several sessions of the Council of Trent and in the conclave of 1549/1550. From 1550 he was cardinal deacon of Santa Maria in Domnica . Andrea Cornaro was the nephew of the cardinals Marco and Francesco Cornaro .

Andrea Cornaro was also the author of several mostly pastoral works, including De statu praelatorium and De residentia episcoporum .
