Carlo Laurenzi (born January 11, 1821 in Perugia , Italy, † November 2, 1893 in Rome ) was an Italian cardinal .

Life

Laurenzi was ordained a priest on September 23, 1843 , then studied law and in 1846 was canon at the Cathedral of Perugia . Archbishop Vincenzo Gioacchino Pecci (who later became Pope Leo XIII ) appointed him in 1847 as his general vicar and in 1851 as a member of the theological college. In 1853 he became papal chamberlain , in 1857 archpriest and head of the cathedral chapter and in 1877 auxiliary bishop in Perugia as well as titular bishop of Amathus in Palestine and administrator of the archdiocese of Perugia. He received his episcopal ordination on June 24, 1877, from his patron Cardinal Pecci, who became Pope the following year; Co- consecrators were Innocenzo Sannibale , Bishop of Gubbio , and Antonio Belli , Bishop of Terni . Leo XIII. Called Laurenzi to Rome in 1878, appointed him Uditore and in 1880 made him cardinal in pectore . His elevation to cardinal priest was not announced until the consistory in 1884. Laurenzi got as a titular church Sant'Anastasia al Palatino assigned. Between March and October 1889 he was Prefect of the Congregation of Rites . In 1889 he was also treasurer of the Holy College of Cardinals .

Carlo Cardinal Laurenzi died in Rome in November 1893 after a long illness and was buried in the Campo Verano cemetery.
