Domenico Bartolini
Domenico Bartolini (born May 16, 1813 in Rome , † October 2, 1887 in Florence ) was a Curia Cardinal of the Catholic Church .
Life
He was the illegitimate son of a trader from Campania and had studied at the Roman seminary.
As a canon of the Basilica of San Marco , he made important archaeological discoveries in 1843.
Pope Pius IX raised him in the consistory of March 18, 1875 to cardinal deacon with the titled deaconry San Nicola in Carcere . In 1876 he moved to San Marco . Bartolini was Prefect of the Congregation for Rites from 1878 to 1886 . In 1878 he took part in the conclave that Pope Leo XIII. chose. Under this Pope he was Prefect of the Congregation of Rites from July 15, 1878 until his death .
Bartolini wrote some archaeological, hagiographic and historical writings.
