Marcello Crescenzi too, Marcello Crescenzio (* 1500 in Rome , † 28 May 1552 in Verona ) was a cardinal of the Roman Church .

Life

He came from an old noble family and was the son of Mario (or Mariano) Crescenzi and his wife Pantasilea Capodiferro. Later cardinals of the same sex were Pier Paolo Crescenzi and Alessandro Crescenzi . Marcello Crescenzi studied both rights ( canonical and civil law ) and became a canon of the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore as an urban Roman cleric . In 1525 he met the Roman Rota as an auditor .

On January 19, 1534 he was appointed Bishop of Marsi , he resigned this office before May 17, 1546. From May 5, 1546 he was administrator of the Diocese of Conza , this office he held until his death.

Pope Paul III created him in the consistory of June 2, 1542 as cardinal priest , the red hat and the titular church of San Marcello received Marcello Crescenzi on November 6, 1542. Two years later, on November 2, 1544, the Pope sent him to the Council of Trent . Cardinal Crescenzi was a participant in the conclave 1549-1550 , from the Julius III. emerged as Pope. On March 5, 1550, the newly elected Pope appointed him legate in Bologna. From January 19, 1551 to January 8, 1552 he was chamberlain of the Holy College of Cardinals . Together with ten other cardinals, he was appointed to the commission on February 18, 1551, which was to carry out the reform of the church based on the decisions of the council. From March 4, 1551 he was legatus a latere at the Council of Trent.

Cardinal Crescenzi died on the way home from Trento in the Benedictine monastery Olivetani in Verona. His body was transferred to Rome and buried in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore .
