Pedro Sarmiento (* around 1478, according to other information around 1487/90 in Ribadeo , Spain , † October 13, 1541 in Lucca ) was a Spanish cardinal of the Catholic Church .

Life

From 1523 Sarmiento was first bishop of Tui (Galicia) , then from 1524 of Badajoz , later from 1525 of Palencia , to finally become Archbishop of Compostela in 1534 . Pope Paul III elevated the archbishop to cardinal on October 18, 1538 at the request of Emperor Charles V and shortly thereafter appointed him cardinal priest of the titular church of Santi XII Apostoli . In 1541 he also served briefly as the administrator of Anagni .
