François II de Tournon

Cardinal François de Tournon

François II. De Tournon CRSA (* 1489 in Tournon-sur-Rhône , † April 22, 1562 in Saint-Germain-en-Laye ) was a French clergyman. Among other things, he was Archbishop of Lyon from 1551 .

Life

His parents were Jacques de Tournon and Jeanne de Polignac.

In addition to his ecclesiastical offices, he was employed by King Heinrich II in various diplomatic missions abroad. François de Tournon was the builder of the castle in Roussillon , where the Edict of Roussillon was signed two years after his death .

He was provisionally buried in Saint-Germain-en-Laye , where he died. Later his body was transferred to the chapel of the Collège de Tournon , which he founded in 1536. The college is now known as the Lycée Gabriel Faure , in front of which a bronze statue of François de Tournon was placed.
